So Close Yet so Far! the Near Misses of Soccer!
So you did not make the cut, it has to be one of the most disappointing moments for anyone who works hard and puts in their best effort. Try your best and success will follow, try saying that to the student who missed the university cut-off by half a point or to the hundred meters runner who missed the gold medal by 0.05 of a second or maybe even to the footballer who hit the post instead of the back of the net, rest assured it will not be a pleasant reaction. There are moments in life where you just miss it, sometimes by a whisker or by a lot. The work, the talent, you have them, so you deserve the best but it just does not happen. Let me say even the best have their worst moments and even the greatest of them just missed it. So the students, the sportsmen, do not lose heart there will be other chances, though sadly most sportsmen do not get their chance and all that is left is a longing, What If?
Here I refer to the near misses in the world’s most famous game football. Every footballer dreams of one day winning the world cup and dedicates his life to that purpose. That leaves little or no doubt of the commitment. Even the greats meet their match or they meet the greater. At that moment there is someone better or luck is on their side. Portugal’s Eusebio “The Black Panther” was undoubtedly the best footballer in Europe in the sixties, some argue even the greatest but then there was Pele. The stage was set, it was the 1966 world cup and Portugal was as confident as ever. The start was good, the magical Eusebio was at his best, and Portugal was in the semifinal against England and the favourites against a new English side. Eusebio played at his best but hit the goal post, and met his match in the form of the English great Bobby Charlton. Charlton scored, Eusebio hit the post and England went on to win the world cup. Eusebio never got his chance again.
Then there was Cruyff, the best footballer Holland has seen. He was a great leader and a terrific footballer. He led from the front and saw Holland through to the 1974 world cup finals. Cruyff knew he was up against a very tough opposition in Germany but he was the best and there was little doubt about the success of Holland. The match began and Cruyff hit the post not once but twice, the world cup belonged to Holland and they deserved it. Alas Cruyff met his match in the form of Beckenbauer and Germany took the 1974 world cup. Cruyff did not participate in the 1978 world cup in Argentina, because of a military coup that had taken place prior to the world cup, fearing security. Holland again finished runner up and this time to Argentina. I wonder what if Cruyff (their best player) had been there? How many times must Cruyff have thought the same, he missed his chance not once but twice, and this time there was no post. Only Cruyff and his decision not to play, seldom do we get the chance of realizing our dream again and he lost it.
Coming to the eighties there was the dazzling French footballer Platini, at the 1982 world cup France lost to Germany in what is regarded as the second best match ever in world cup history. Platini lost in what was a truly great game of football. Not to be undone Platini was back in 1986 and the ‘Les Bleus’ were at their best. Only to be ousted again in the semifinals by Germany, in a match which saw the best French penalty shot taker Platini miss a penalty. History seemed to repeat itself and that unfortunately meant the last chance for Platini was gone. Platini did score the most international goals for France. Germany did end up losing the finals on both those occasions (the irony of fate). At the very same world cups was the best team to have never won the world cup and they were Brazilian dream team of Coach Telê Santana, with players like Zico and Socrates. In 1986 they hit the woodwork twice and Zico missed a penalty which saw France through rather fortuitously. The best team ended up being the most complacent team and saw the world cup slip away.
There are a few players who deserved winning the world cup more than these greats but luck, over confidence, equally great players stopped them from doing so. Football like life also has its disappointing moments. Who can explain the irony, the student who missed the University cut-off, the hundred meters runner, or the footballer who hit the post? Quite a conundrum, even the best could not make it, and that even those who have been through the experience cannot explain.

Owen Coyle returning to Bolton
For a few hours it was the belief of Burnley fans that Owen Coyle the current Burnley football club manager and ex Bolton football player may stay where he is.
News soon filtered out of his desire to leave the club he so successfully brought to the Premiership this season for a club that looks to be embroiled in a relegation battle at the bottom of the table.
Whilst there are four places between them with Burnley and Bolton in 14th and 18th respectively the gap is only two points meaning a few wins for Bolton will lift them from the bottom three and maybe thrust them above the side that will have to find approxiamately £4million to take Owen Coyle up to Bolton.
Compensation would still need to be agreed should Coyle make his final decision to leave meaning Bolton’s transfer kitty could be choped in half. Coyle has done extremely well with a team that lacks investment and a kitty as big as Bolton’s may be what he needs as a platform to extend his already lively managerial career.
Burnley’s biggest problem will be trying to fill his shoes with someone experienced enough to boost Burnley once more as Coyle did at the beginning of the season with victory over Manchester United at Turf Moor. The fans will know that unless a suitable replacement is found quickly, and that he is of the quality Burnley expect, then relegation could be facing them too come the end of the season.
The best online bookmakers still have odds on Bolton at 7/2 to be relegated with Burnley, despite being in 14th position, 15/8 to be in the Championship next season.
African strikers to watch out for in the 2010 Fifa world cup in South Africa
I know that we are still in the qualifying stages of the world cup but it would be good to keep track of some important African strikers in the major leagues and watch their build up and the roles they play both in their leagues and the countries they play for.
Lets start with the BBC African player of the year 2008 and the African player of the year 2008 Emmanuel Adebayor. This is one of the most phenomenal players in Africa. He is a Togolese national. He is a strong and dominant figure, very powerful and lethal when it comes to air ball. But I have one problem with him. He needs 50 chances in order to put in one goal. Ok that’s exaggerated but its close. He is not as lethal on the ground. But I am impressed with the way that he is able place the ball round keepers and his celebration dance (together with his Arsenal name sake Emmanuel Eboue) also excites me. I believe he has the will to do more. His shot is not as powerful but he can be a really big disturbance to defences. Ade we are watching you!
Another deadly striker in front of the goal is Didier Drogba, the Ivorian striker. Ok, so the 2008-2009 season has not been his best but for sure he is lethal in front of goal. I believe at full fitness, this guy can tear down defenses single-handedly and ashame defenders. He is big, strong and very fast, a rare combination of a striker. He has a killer shot which I know all goal keepers in the FA premier league dread. Try and stop his shot and either get hurt or…..read the complete article and more More information on the Confederations Cup 2009 here.
Liverpool Football Club
Liverpool Football Club is an English professional football club, the most successful club in the history of English football. Its traditional colors are red and white, and Liverpool’s current kit white shirts, black shorts and white socks with red trim. The traditional liver bird, which is placed inside a shield, is Liverpool’s symbol. Home stadium of Liverpool club is Anfield; its capacity is 45, 362. Liverpool’s hymn is “You’ll never walk alone”; this line is written on the stadium gates.
This Football Club has a history of more than 100 years: it was found on 1888. John Holding, the owner of “Anfield” stadium, has decided to create a new football team, after Everton F.C., the former team, has moved to another location. The name of the new football club was supposed to remain Everton, but the football association refused to accept it under the former name, therefore it was changed to Liverpool, after the name of the city. Liverpool won their first Football League championship in 1901, and won a second championship in 1906.
Liverpool’s longest standing rivalry is with Merseyside team Everton, after a dispute with Everton officials. Another well-known rivalry is with Manchester United, as a result of a success both clubs share. Liverpool football club has won five European Cups, and record eighteen English League titles. Liverpool also became the first English club to win three major trophies in a single season — the League title, the League Cup and the European Cup. Media also favors Liverpool – TV and newspapers regularly publish Liverpool news as the most famous football team in England. The city of Liverpool is associated with a variety of sport activities; however, football has proved to be the most successful.
Basic Rules of Soccer
This papers is all about the topic that you have been looking for, take your time to read.
Association football is a very popular sports game. In this game you have two opposed teams trying to score a goal for their team by hitting the ball into the other side’s soccer goal. While this can be a sport game both to watch and play there are a few basic rules of soccer that need to be followed. These are principally way to keep the game from turn rowdy and very dangerous.
In the first part of game you will have to have two teams who are willing to play against each other. The very first basic rules of soccer should come into play as soon as both of these teams are on the field. There should be Eleven people on the field who are sledding to play the game. The rest of the squad should be posing or wait on the sidelines only. They must stay there unless they are needed to go on the field.
In the most basic rules of soccer also having play you should make sure that you assure the ball with the rest of your body. You want to be sure that your hands and arms come perfectly no where near the soccer ball or the other team will get a free turn at performing and your team will have to begin the defensive soccer ball game.
When you are performing this game you will need to make sure that you don’t tackle the goal keeper. Doing a move like this will only gain your team a foul. This is a penalization which will let your opponents have a free turn at trying to score a goal. Of all the basic rules of soccer is that of Taking the game by having the most goals scored. You must try to accomplish this by acting fairly, otherwise your squad will lose valuable points.
So as well the basic rules of soccer what else can you expect? You should try and void any diving event tackles as this can cause hurt to the person that you are tackling. You will need to invest in the right soccer equipment that your soccer squad approves of. In addition to this there is only one main rule that you will need to remember. The Role of Media in Sport
Sport is one of the well-published issues in the Net. Sport issues gain a lot of publicity and discussions in the media. The examples are numerous: thousands of football news article depict the reactions of trainers to a particular event. Important soccer games are an everyday issue in TV channels. New technologies are used everywhere in coverage of sports: tennis streaming video presents the particular strokes of favored tennis stars, such as Rafael Nadal and Maria Sharapova. At the days of serious matches, fans enjoy watching the game of their favored teams in tennis or football online. We might ask ourselves: what is the role the Media plays in Sport?
One probable answer would be that the media successfully exploits the public need for entertainment. People have always felt the need to be entertained, starting from the days of gladiators, when the public’ general demand was to see people die in front of them in exchange for their money. As the years went by, the forms of the entertainment changed and became less cruel, but the principle of the crowd asking for Panem et circenses (i.e. “bread and circuses”) remained the same. In this matter, sports news is the best possible entertainment, and watching sport online or on TV is the best possible way to witness the actual thing happening.
And here comes the next possible answer: media adheres to the needs of the wide public, fulfilling the desire to watch the “actual thing” on-line. Although a football match might occur in Milano, and tennis game may take place in Moscow, media brings the tennis game and the football match straight to your living room, without the need to get up from sofa and buy the ticket to Milano or wherever you want to get to. Media makes use of our need to witness the actual thing by serving as a mediator between the sporting event, which happens somewhere out there, and us, the viewers.
Being a central part of our everyday experience, media brings sports coverage to our living room and shows it to us whenever we choose. I’d say it’s a good thing, but you – choose for yourselves.

Beer Today Scone Tomorrow
Alcohol is undoubtedly cool, but it can often be abused. Earlier this week, the wife was rushed to hospital after a Buckfast frenzy. I say rushed, but the ambulance took a disgraceful 35 minutes to arrive; I’d have driven myself if it wasn’t a Champions League night. The wife is now in the ‘Soccer AM’ position, she’s relying on tubes to survive.
It’s not all been good news this week though; I’m really struggling to find a value bet in the match between Arsenal and West Ham. If a gun was placed to my head i’d suggest a win for Arsenal at 1/2. If a gun was placed to the wife’s head; i’d say that I never negotiate with terrorists.
Finding a winner in the Reading v Liverpool match is a far simpler proposition. The arrival of Mascherano has added real steel to the Scouse armoury; I’m nicking the evens for a Liverpool win.
David James has had plenty of critics over the years and I’m afraid I have to once again question his decision making. The Pompey keeper is sporting the campest beard since Wayne Rooney’s little ginger effort earlier in the season. The Manchester United train to titleville is stopping off at Portsmouth; I’m boarding at 8/15.
Speaking of a little ginger effort, I’ve seen worse investments than the 3/1 for Paul Scholes finding the net at any time. Sir Alex believes that the refreshed day-sleeper holds the key to United winning the title; I refuse to argue with the vastly experienced Sweaty.
Newcastle United should take a leaf out of Wayne Rooney’s book; the Geordies can’t buy a result at the minute. The Toon Army are winless and goalless in their last four league matches; Sheffield United can snatch a draw at a game 23/10.
Life has been far from a picnic for Frank Lampard in recent weeks. The Chelsea goal machine has been attacked by a crazed supporter and dropped by England after fracturing a bone in his wrist. Now to add insult to injury, he looks a little bit like Eric Cartman. Chelsea are 4/9 to beat Tottenham, sweet.
Big Frank was understandably devastated with the news that Arjen Robben will miss the rest of the season through injury. Superman has Lois Lane, Spiderman looks to Aunt May and Fatman needs Robben. Drogba can open the scoring at a heroic 4/1.
Earlier this season, the Boro were a lot like me when I was an altar boy; they found themselves in all sorts of trouble at the Vicarage. Watford cruised to a 2-0 win on home territory; Boro can gain revenge at 8/11.
Emile Mpenza deserves plenty of credit. The Belgian striker has not only saved the Psycho from the sack; he’s also made us all realise that you can be a quality footballer and still be named ‘Emile’. I’m making a meal of the 9/4 for a draw between City and the improving Charlton.
Chris Coleman was shocked to discover that his wife had planted a listening device in his motor. The Fulham manager has it easy; my wife has been bugging me for six years. Everton can pick up the points against the Cottagers at 8/11.
Robbie Savage’s ongoing recovery from a broken leg has pleased the Blackburn board. The fact that the blonde bombshell is nearing a return is secondary; they just want the caravan removed from the car park. Aston Villa will leave Ewood Park with a point at an immovable 9/4.
The wife is the most positive person I know; she says ‘yes’ more than the man from Del Monte. Is Wigan v Bolton a stick on draw at 9/4? I too must answer in the affirmative.
I rarely stray away from the beautiful game, but a couple of excellent betting opportunities have presented themselves further afield. Joe Calzaghe will annihilate Peter Manfredo in the boxing and the beefy Cambridge crew will see off the lightweight Oxford in the rowing. The 8/13 double reminds me of the wife; it’s a slapper with a dodgy boat race.
Middlesbrough, Liverpool, Man Utd and a Blackburn draw form a 15/1 weekend accer that is so angelic, it’s made me realise how much I’d miss the wife if she failed to recover. She does make a cracking scone.
Soccer Training
Soccer exercises may be the key to success in playing the beautiful Thursday The worlds best players spend many hours each week and doing the same soccer basic exercises that are taught to children who have just taken the sport. Great movements and objectives are not born on the ground, they are created from that soccer training drills to develop skills and performance. We took a number of soccer training and drilling ideas listed below for you to consider if you or your child wants to play for LA Galaxy and become the next David Beckham. This drill soccer requires at least three players, the objective of this exercise is to improve the communication skills. If there are 4 players are divided into 2 sets of 2, then each position against other about 15 feet apart. To begin with, the first player of the series 1 pass the ball to the first player in the series 2, that player will then immediately and stands behind his teammate. The group receiving 2 player kicked again to 2 players in the first group, then runs behind the player number 2 and so forth. This is one of the best training exercises soccer to reach a passer and ball control practice. As you improve, you should seek to accelerate the transition, more and faster and faster, without losing control of ball, it also means that it becomes progressively more demanding. Another major soccer ball control drill is to learn to juggle with the ball, it is not very practical for use actual game, but it greatly improves ball. It is a pleasure and useful soccer exercise. One of the great things about juggling is that you can use any body part out of your hands. It can also improve your ability to arrest and traps to buy bullets that makes you used to pass the ball with, for example, shoulder or upper body. A few minutes of practice a day will produce ball confidence and also provides the opportunity to use the non-preferred kicking foot. The latter is the point on a dribble a soccer training drill, a player prepares to move effectively and a teammate too. It is best played with someone who does not play in a complementary position, if a defender should practice with an offensive player. A player attacks the other defends and then they exchange places and repetition, keeping score adds to the pleasure, all success before playing the defense scores a point. Very simple but effective soccer training exercises are an essential part to play soccer, not learned great player of his skills on the ground, all learned through repetitive exercises soccer.
