The History of Football

For as long as football (soccer) has been around, football fans have also been around. The most significant consequence: it is appreciated that the football World Cup gathers the second greatest number of viewers, after the Olympics. For instance, the World competition of 2006 brought together more than three million spectators, and these were only those who got the chance of a seat in the stadiums. Just imagine the number of those who gathered around a TV in order to watch the matches; how useful free football online would have been! And the case of the World Cup is not singular; other football tournaments have their own faithful fans and viewers, many of whom would surely be grateful for the occasion of watching their favorite teams in action while the matches are broadcasted live. Fortunately, the latest improvements in live broadcasting allow football fans to watch live and free soccer online. Obviously, the reasons why free football online has been made possible are closely related to the popularity of this particular kind of sports event.

Football (or soccer) has not always been as popular as it is these days – and it is exceptionally popular since free soccer online is considered. Although the so called “games with a ball” (resembling football) have a long history, it was only during the second half of the 19th century that the birth of football was registered. England is the location where soccer, as we know it today (with a few minor changes), was officially born. Surely, there are stories relating that, approximately three thousand years ago, a game named “Kemari” played with a ball filled with sand was widely practiced in Japan. It did resemble football, but the number of the players on the field was only eight and even less at times. The same, it is estimated that in China, around the epoch of 2500 B.C., a game named “tsu chu”, played to pay homage to the emperor, developed up until the interval of 230 B.C.-220 A.D. The game involved a number of players trying to stop one another from kicking a stuffed ball (presumably, it was stuffed with feathers) through an opening between two bamboo stems.

However, the Football Association, the one which is “responsible” for the commencement of the game then called “Association football”, was established only as late as 1863, in London. The origins of English soccer can be identified back in the Middle Ages, when a type of mob football was practiced, as a competition between villages or towns. The purpose was to bring a ball at the central public square of the village/town of the opponents. While the game was very popular, it was also very violent, since very few play rules had been established. As a consequence, the first royal ban (by King Edward II) on the practice of this game was registered at the middle of the 14th century. The bans were maintained for the next three centuries; nonetheless, the game was still practiced. We can be sure that by 1863 a number of more accurate play rules had been adopted (in fact, 17 years earlier the first play regulations had been written down). The label of “soccer” was coined in the 1880s, and it is an abbreviation from “association”. Nowadays, Americans use the term widely so as to distinguish soccer from American football.

When the second half of the 20th century came (and along with it came the media), soccer began being popularized worldwide. The first World Cups had already taken place (ever since 1930) and the fans began swelling their numbers so that today the need to cover their demands (as spectators) by every legal means possible – and free football online is one of these means – is exploited at the maximum. Unfortunately, not all football fans allow a monthly subscription to rather costly satellite broadcasted programs in order to watch live their favorite matches.

Free soccer online is one of the alternative methods of saying that the history of football is still in the making. And it is in the making because it gives the fair share to football fans. This is what the option for free football online actually says: since the fans are those who have turned football into one of widespread and best-liked sports all throughout the world, then it is the fans who deserve their reward. Free football online is the result of the game’s popularity and the advancements in technology. Practically, anyone who has an Internet connection can be the beneficiary of free football online. And you do not lose anything from the live broadcasts, since Internet speed is the chief guarantee of a broadcast obeying every decent rule concerning quality and promptness of the transmission.

Additionally, free soccer online can cover an impressive variety of football matches. All you have to do in order to enjoy in the best possible manner your registration for free soccer online programs is to find the proper guide with the help of which you can decide on and select according to your own taste the matches you want to watch. In the end, the opportunities offered by free soccer online programs are the next expected step in the history of football, namely the stage where various means are employed so as to make sure that the fans who have kept football alive for such a long time are fully content. To what concerns the rest of the football events, i.e. victories or losses, it is only a matter of the players’ skills.

In a Back and Forth Series, the Lakers Take Game 3

Sports and World Peace

Like baseball, basketball is one of America’s favorite pastimes. The evening the Houston Rockets won the NBA Championship in 1995, the streets of Houston were packed with throngs of people and seemed to be a common thread amongst everyone no matter their race, color or creed…. that commonality was sports. It didn’t matter if they weren’t really basketball fans; they were fans of being winners and that night, we were all winners.

There is something going on in Iraq right now that reminds me of that nostalgic moment: Operation Soccer Ball. Apparently the Iraqi people, particularly the Iraqi children, are passionate about soccer. Actually, it’s football to them, but we call it soccer. You could equate their passion for the game of soccer to our love of football or baseball. Any street, field, farm, or dusty ground off the side of the road is a veritable soccer field in Iraq. From reports of soldiers overseas, Iraqis are all passionately chasing some form or fashion of a soccer ball. If they don’t have a soccer ball, they’ll use anything as a substitute – even a rock – and play with it like they were playing for the World Championship.

Iraqis need soccer balls, and whoever started Operation Soccer Ball, in my opinion, is brilliant. It was started as a way to convey the goodwill of America and American soldiers by giving Iraqi children soccer balls that they so desperately desire.

The love of sports, in this case being soccer, is starting to become an instrument of peace and is forming a common bond between the US and the Middle East. It’s transcending cultural differences and language barriers and it’s also mitigating the aggravated feelings of some Iraqis that would rather not see US presence in their land.

I found out about Operation Soccer Ball from a local radio station in Tampa Bay — WQYK. They contacted my company, PostcardMania, to print posters promoting Operation Soccer Ball in an effort to raise money for the cause and enable soccer balls be sent to soldiers in three different locations in Iraq. The purpose of the mission was to solidify relationships with the future leaders of Iraq by giving soccer balls out to the Iraqi children.

The program actually started in Tampa by a woman named Gina McDowell whose son, PFC McDowell, is serving in the Army Reserves presently stationed in Al Hillah, Iraq. He is part of the Provincial Reconstruction Team attached to the United States State Department. Gina came up with the idea of collecting soccer balls when her son told her the impact they had on Iraqi children. She then contacted WQYK to help spread the word and aid in the collection. Operation Soccer Ball was run through the local VFW. (There may be other programs like this around the country.) And PostcardMania printed the posters — pro-bono. We do lots of pro-bono work for charities and recently started doing more for the military. We were contacted this past summer to help USO Georgia by printing 18,000 postcards for a large deployment of American troops so they’d have postcards to write home to their families on one last time before boarding their plane on their journey to the Iraq and Afghanistan.

Well, I got a letter the other day that Operation Soccer Ball was a big success — over $8000 was raised for the project and all the monies went directly to the cause which enabled WQYK to collect over 3500 soccer balls and enough money to ship them (it costs close to $2 to ship each ball!). One interesting note that really stood out was that after being befriended with a soccer ball, some Iraqi children have risked their own safety by disclosing the whereabouts of numerous IEDs (explosive devices) and insurgents to our soldiers. Wow. It’s amazing to me that a small gesture of a soccer ball can impact so many lives.

It’s the pleasure in life, or even the contemplation of pleasure, that enriches our lives. For some it could be a trip to the Bahamas. For others, it could be a stroll down memory lane with an old friend…or the love of a good game of basketball. But for the Iraqis, it’s the game of soccer. And a lot of good people are creating a safer haven in the worn-torn Middle East with just a few balls – who’d have thought?

Michael, a soldier in Iraq who has a blog on the net, cited some Kiowa pilots from the 1st Cavalry Division that had been dropping soccer balls from their helicopters after completing their missions. One story in particular really struck a chord.

“I remember this one time when we came down, ready to drop a few balls and we see this kid standing off in the distance. He had his arm cocked back to his ear, just ready to hurl a rock at us. I pulled one of the balls out and tossed it to him. The kid just stood there for a second, like he really wasn’t sure what to do, but then he dropped that rock, grabbed the ball and gave us the thumbs up. That was cool.” –Chief Warrant Officer Sonny Hinchman, Kiowa pilot.

The Tampa Bay program has ended but hopefully this story will inspire others across the nation to develop similar initiatives in their cities. More corporations can get involved by donating soccer balls — monetary donations or donations of the soccer balls themselves with possibly a company logo on each ball. What a great way to get exposure and positive publicity after donating a few thousand balls. Even big conglomerates like Nike, Microsoft or even city governments like NY, Atlanta, Houston or Tampa Bay can get on the bandwagon. Heck – let’s rain soccer balls instead of bullets. Who knows, we might just have the next World Champion Soccer Team on our Hands: Team Iraq.

Short Sided Round Robin Format For Basketball And Soccer

A garage organizer system is extremely important to make sure that your garage stays clean and well organized. There is no more important part of your house than your garage. Therefore, why do so many home owners find their garage to be the messiest portion of the home? The reason is that, because it’s is so big, they feel they are a liberty to dump all their unwanted possessions there in order to clean up the rest of their house.
Unfortunately, the garage is usually the area that your visitors will see first upon arriving. You know you need to get it organized…but how? Here are some simple yet incredible effective tools and tips that will enable you to keep your garage organized and looking spotless.
First of all, as with any organizational endeavor, whether it be your closet, cabinet, etc, discard any items you will not be using. Most people’s organizational problems stem from their inability or unwillingness to get rid of items they know they will not be using. They tell themselves that they might use the item again at some point.
However, that day never arrives. Leave nothing untouched. If you don’t believe you will be using the item within the next year or so, get rid of it immediately!
The next step is to repair cracks in the garage walls. Wall cracks can cause the garage, even an otherwise clean one, to appear disorganized and messy. This should be done only after discarding your unneeded items.
Third, use hooks on the walls. This is especially useful for your bigger items such as chairs, bikes, shovels, etc. Quite simply, unless you own a huge garage with an endless amount of space to put your larger times, it is necessary to put most of them above the ground to make room for the rest of your inventory. This will instantly give you far more room in your garage than you ever dreamed possible.
Any items that need to be repaired should be done so immediately. There is nothing more wasteful than to allow broken or unusable items to sit around the garage floor for long periods of time. For instance, if your bike needs to be fixed, instead of letting it sit around taking up space, immediately take it to the shop and have it repaired. If your items need to be kept in the garage, they had better serve a good purpose.
Clutter is always the result of indecision You do not know what to do with your belongings, and therefore they get left around the garage instead of being put where they should. The most important thing when it comes to de-cluttering your garage is to make a decision and stick with it.
If you are sure that you will be using an item in the near future, then by all means keep it. However, if you know that you won’t be using an item but decide to keep it anyway, you will never get your garage or your life under control.
The most important thing to remember is that, once your garage is in order, you must keep following this system or it will get out of hand again very quickly. Every time you find another item that you know you won’t be using, instead of putting it in the garage, throw it out.
If you do this each and every time you come across such an item, the mess will not accumulate in the first place and you will never again be faced with a big clean-up job again. Follow this garage organizer system, and you will quickly find that it’s easier than ever to organize your garage and your house in general.

College Football Tickets – a Brief History

College football is just nothing else but American football played by teams fielded by the American colleges. These include teams from American universities, as well as from military academies. College football is very popular among college students, and it is through the American colleges that American Football has gained the stature it has today. College football developed from Rugby, a form of football played in England. Rugby reached North America through the British soldiers stationed in Canada, and became very popular in Canadian colleges.

The first game of ‘football’ played between two American college teams – Rutgers College and the College of New Jersey – was not a form of Rugby but more akin to soccer. This game, which Rutgers won 6-4, was played at College Field in New Brunswick, New Jersey, on November 6, 1869. Rutgers College is now the Rutgers University; College of New Jersey is now the Princeton University; and College Field is where, today, the College Avenue Gymnasium of the Rutgers University stands.

The first ‘rugby-style’ game of college football in the United States took place in 1875, between teams from Harvard and Yale. The credit of fashioning the game of American Football from rugby, by 1892, goes to the one time captain of the Yale football team – Walter Chauncey Camp. The most significant person in the history of American football, Camp has rightly been called the ‘Father of American Football.’

Camp pioneered the modern elements of scoring – at least most of them, the eleven man team, the traditional seven man line of offensive setup, the four man backfield, and the play from scrimmage. The college football became increasingly popular, and also more violent. After a series of player deaths in the collegiate games, Present Roosevelt, in 1906, threatened to ban the sport.

This caused the formation of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), which formulated rules to govern the game. It was during these days that college football was the predominant way to American football. College football was where style of play and strategy innovations were made and then passed on gradually to the professional arena.

College football remains very popular, despite the rise and popularity of professional football in America. It is more popular in rural areas, and in the south, due to the lack of professional teams there. College football is very popular in places, such as Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Iowa, Louisiana, Michigan, Mississippi, Nebraska, Ohio, Oklahoma, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, and West Virginia, among others.

The Tickets

College football teams have as large a fan following as do the professional football teams, and their games draw more number of spectators than do the professional teams.

College football tickets are in great demand, and may not be easy to procure. You can safely forget to procure them from the venues of the games – they would be sold out. Your best alternative option – those ticket brokers. Legitimate and professional ticket brokers, such as have a successful history of helping you arrange college football tickets for the games of your choice.

Soccer – England Missed the Chance for the European Championship 2008

After last Wednesday home defeat against Croatia; it is now a fact the European Championship 2008 in Switzerland and Austria will be carried out without the English football motherland. Croatia won by 2:3; goals by Niko Krancjar (9th minute) as well as by the national league professionals Ivica Olic (14th) and Mladen Petric (77th). The fans who shared the thrill with England in the Wembley Stadium were visibly disappointed about the lousy performance of the English national team and Coach Steve McClaren. Superstar David Beckham as well could barely believe the practically unimaginable happening. ”This was disastrous for the whole country“, was his comment in regards to the loss.

The team won a total of twelve games, lost three and tied two games. The team accumulated 23 points, just one point less than the surprising second place Russia. Since only the first two in each group can qualify for the European Championship; England will have to stay home next year. Due to Croatia’s victory it was possible for Russia, that also achieved a victory against Andorra to reach the second place. If England would have won they would be in advantage by the points.

After the unexpected disappointing; England‘s Coach McClaren will be dismissed immediately. He took the place of the national coach after the World Cup 2006 when the former coach Sven-Göran Eriksson from Sweden left the team after the publication of confidential utterances.

For only a short period of 15 months there hasn’t been anyone else coaching the national team for such a short time. Throughout the qualification rounds and by making big mistakes such missing penalties England achieved the image of the EURO-2008-Loser. With this image the players Beckham, Gerrard and Co. will probably have to deal with for a long time. ”This was the worst evening for the national team. It will keep hurting for quite a while”, complained Steven Gerrard.

The last games of the qualification round have already taken place so all 16 participants for the 13th European Championship 2008 already stand firm. Already qualified are: Germany, France, Greece, Italy, Croatia, the Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Russia, Sweden, the Czech Republic, Spain and Turkey. Since Austria and Switzerland are the event hosts these two teams are automatically qualified.

In group D the Czech Republic could achieve the first place. The German team which finished their last group match against Wales with an unsatisfied 0:0 kept the second place. Thereby; they also have an advantage, they will not end up in the feared lottery pot of the raffle for the preliminaries. There are always the hosts, the title holder, “Greece”, and the team with the year’s best coefficient, the Netherlands.
