3. Be a friend as well as a guide: The game of soccer demands total dedication and sincerity and achieving this can be a little tricky with kids. So ensure discipline at all levels and that it is never compromised. Don’t underestimate the power of these soccer coaching tips. Leave the kids to themselves and you will be amazed by the results. Human nature demands that we introspect, talk to ourselves and do things we like. Encourage them to organize outings.
4. Be there for your kids: It is essential that the players try out new strategies to succeed and it is imperative that when they do so, there will be failures. Ensure that you are available to motivate them to try again or try something new in such situations. Keep the group under your watchful eye and lend a helping hand when things do not work out the way as expected. However, note that it may prove counter-productive to scold the players for errors. Remember that punishment inculcates a feeling of rejection while being supportive and encouraging breeds great ideas and performances.
5. Maintain Harmony and good judgment: A soccer field is where you will appreciate true skills of the players. A winning team blends the positive points of all the players, although there are negative points as well. As a coach, it is your duty to use your best players to motivate and inspire the others. How you carry out the exercise of converting the not-so-great players into the finest is the real test of your coaching skills. Do this in a fashion that does not make the players feel a sense of disparity between them.

Sports Psychology Myths: Are Athletes Weak If They Resort To Mental Training?
Are you or your players afraid other athletes will see you as weak if you have to do mental training or work with a sports psychologist? Still today, athletes buy into myths about sports psychology, which prevent them from embracing the benefits of mental training. I recently received an email from a young hockey player getting ready for try outs. This hockey player states:
“I have friends who perform better than me and they don’t read any mental training books. Every time I open my mental training book I feel no motivation to read because better athletes don’t do anything to mentally prepare themselves. I feel that I’m weak by being probably the only guy going to try-outs that reads mental training books. I have only heard of a very few great athletes that do mental preparation.”
When I receive these emails from athletes, I’m surprised that people still view mental training or sports psychology as a weakness and thus think they are inferior because they need to do mental training. Unfortunately, a few athletes still buy into myths about sports psychology and thus shy away. This is an interesting–and misguided–conception about the value of sports psychology.
One of the hallmarks of great athletes is their interest in improving themselves. That doesn’t just apply to their physical skills; it applies to their mental game, as well. There’s nothing weak, wimpy or sissy-like about being willing and eager to improve oneself and one’s performance.
I do think that some athletes are naturally more talented than others and confidence comes easily for them. Other athletes have to work harder in sports to keep up and they might not develop the confidence they need to be fully confident. In any case, athletes at all levels are using mental training and sports psychology to become better athletes–no matter if they are in a slump or trying to keep a winning streak alive.
I also know that athletes in some sports embrace sports psychology more than others. In golf, tennis, and baseball, for example, athletes accept mental training as another type of performance enhancement. In addition, many professional athletes attribute their success to mental toughness including golfer Tiger Woods, NASCAR driver Jeff Burton, and basketball player Michael Jordan….

Lastly, if you or your athletes worry that others think you’re weak (if you do mental training) spend too much time thinking about how others view you. You can’t worry about what others think about your training or your game. If this is you, you’re great candidates for mental training! With mental training, you can learn to “tune out” worries about what others think of you and focus on what’s most important—playing the game and performing your best.
Athletes are more likely to embrace mental training when they understand it and its benefits. However, the best way for athletes to buy into mental training is when they actually experience its power firsthand. Sports psychology or mental training helps athletes perform more consistently, find the zone more often, keep a winning streak alive, and learn how to think well under pressure.

T Series’ Bhushan Kumar-produced, Radhika Rao-Vinay Sapru-directed untitled films will star Sunny Deol, Kangana Ranaut and Madhavan in the lead roles. The film is slated to go on the floors later this year, and the producers are working on a suitable title for the romantic flick.
Vinay Sapru and Radhika Rao had earlier directed Lucky with Salman Khan. The current film will be shot in Chicago later this year.
So what will it be called then? “When we decide, you will be the first to know,” he smiles.

Basic Soccer Drills That Can Produce Superstars
Before you can begin teaching kids more complicated elements of game play and soccer, it is important to first teach them the basic skills so that they can get a feel for the game. If you’re a kid’s soccer coach, then it is your job to make sure that your players get off on the right foot, by learning the essential skills that are so important in this game. Below you will find some information on the basic skills that should be taught to every child.
Teaching Them to Dribble and Shoot
Dribbling and shooting are two of the most basic kid’s soccer skills. Without these essential skills, a child will not be able to succeed at the game of soccer. To help teach theses skills to children, place several balls over the soccer field and line all the players up in a straight line on one end.
As you blow a whistle or tell the children to go, they should run onto the field, catch a ball with their foot, while dribbling and shooting it into a goal on the opposite end of the field. Repeating this drill on a daily basis will allow children to improve both of these skills in a short period of time.
Passing the Ball and Following Directions
These two kid’s soccer skills teach them the importance of being a team player. Soccer after all, is a team sport that should be shared equally between all children. If they do not possess good passing skills, and do not know how to follow simple directions, they will be less of a team and more like one child dribbling the ball down the field by himself.
A simple drill that can be used to teach children about passing the ball and following directions requires that you line the team up in a single file line at one end of the field. A single team member will stand in front of them about 5 to 10 feet away.
When you say go, the first person in line will try to steal the ball from the teammate in the field. When you say stop, the player in the field with the ball must pass it to the first person in line. This teaches the children that they have to listen to your instructions in order to hear when you say stop or go, and teaches them to pass to each other.
Handling the Ball
If you take the time to teach children how to handle the ball with other body parts besides their feet, they’ll be able to create more spontaneous plays on the field. To accomplish this you can have the player’s practice bouncing the ball with their heads and knees, or stopping the ball with their backs.
Although it is important to make kids soccer fun, it is also essential that they learn the basic skills needed for the game. After children have mastered these skills, they can move on to actual game play and more complicated routines.
Soccer Coaching Tips-What Makes A Good Soccer Coach Great?
Throughout my soccer career, i came across a number of Soccer Coaches who all had different styles, ideas and personalities. At the pinnacle of any sport, especially soccer, the top teams of any league are separated by the smallest of percentages. On any given day, the bottom team can in fact beat the league leaders. So how do we distinguish between a good coach and a great coach?
Some of the characteristics needed to be a good soccer coach are
- Good Man/ Individual Management Skills
- Good Communication Skills
- Eliminating team or club politics
- and a good set of tactics or vision.
The best coaches I’ve worked with simply had all the above boxes ticked and placed great emphasis on Man Management Skills and Communication.
A great soccer coach is able to control his team and get his message to the players as a group or on an individual level. Back in the good old days when i was alot younger, the coaching styles were totally different to what we have today. In the past coaches used intimidation and installed fear into the players to get their message across. These coaches who used to rant, rave and intimidate players wouldn’t survive in today’s modern soccer.
The great soccer coaches of today get to know their players. They talk to them and try to wok out what makes this individual tick. How can i get the best out of this player? Today’s coaches are more like father figures, obviously the coaches who are poor in this area tend to struggle.
After spending many years in soccer, the conclusion i draw is that great coaches had the ability to change direction and challenge the status quo. They were not set in their ways or their training methods. Also the coaches that stood out for me were the ones who had a great personality and remembered that life is always bigger than the game.
